.KEY MESSAGES...

- Dense fog is forecast across parts of the area Thursday and Friday
mornings.

- A dry frontal passage will bring a brief period of lower humidity
and cooler temperatures Saturday.

- Warmer temperatures will return next week along with small rain
  chances.

.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 216 AM CDT Thu Mar 26 2026

A light onshore flow around SFC to low level ridging to the east and
an expanding upper level ridge to the west will continue to result
in above normal temperatures, the risk of overnight/early morning
fog development, and little to no chance of rain for the next couple
of days.

Made no change to the inherited dense fog advisory, with latest
probabilistic guidance still strongly supporting widespread dense
fog across the LA parishes.  Signal is a little murkier across SE
TX, but based on observations across this area WED morning and
currently at KBPT, leaned a little harder into persistence in
keeping the advisory going for Jefferson and Orange counties. Fog
will again be a concern THU night/FRI morning as the overall pattern
is progged to change very little.

Afternoon and to a lesser extent overnight temperatures will
continue to be above seasonal normals, though record highs in the
upper 80s to lower 90s appear safe at this time.

The upper ridge to the west will be eroded just enough by shortwave
trof traversing the Four Corners/Southern Plains to allow a frontal
passage late FRI into early SAT. Void of deep layer MSTR, this is
forecast to be a dry front, but it will usher in a relatively brief
period of lower humidity and cooler temperatures FRI night through
SAT night, with lows in the 50s and highs in the 70s.  Will continue
to monitor the forecast for winds and RH on SAT for possible fire
weather concerns given the long running spell of dry weather.

Return southerly flow resumes on SUN as the post-frontal SFC high
slides quickly off to the east, with this flow deepening and
strengthening with time as the ridge amplifies off the SE US coast. A
warming trend with at least low end rain chances is forecast for the
upcoming work week.

Fog will gradually burn off after sunrise this morning. Additional
areas of fog will occur Friday morning. Otherwise conditions will
be VFR from late morning thorugh early evening. Winds will be
light and southeast

Light onshore winds and low seas will prevail through Friday. A dry
cold front will push through the coastal waters late Friday night
into Saturday morning turning winds offshore and increasing them to
20-25 knots with seas 4 to 6 feet. The elevated offshore flow in
addition to being a few days before a full moon could lead to low
water conditions. These winds will weaken by Saturday night before
turning back onshore Sunday through next week.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Issued at 504 AM CDT Thu Mar 26 2026

Above normal temperatures and humidity will continue across the
region through Friday with areas of fog developing each morning
before diminishing a few hours after sunrise. A dry cold front
will push through the region Friday evening into early Saturday
with a brief period of cooler, drier air filtering into the region
on breezy north winds Saturday. This drier air will drop
afternoon minimum RH values into the 25-35% range which, combined
with the ongoing drought across much of the region, could support
the development and/or spread of wildfires. Winds will turn back
out of the south Sunday with humidity increasing once again in
response. A warm, humid pattern becomes reestablished through much
of next week.
